If something went wrong, I could trace it back to a specific event, a past failure, or an experience that \u201cmade me this way.\u201d But at some point, I realized\u2014my past doesn\u2019t dictate my future. My behavior isn\u2019t a reaction to past experiences; it\u2019s driven by my goals. I act in a way that serves the life I want, not the life I\u2019ve had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if my past wasn\u2019t the problem, why did I still struggle? The answer became clear: <strong>the real weight I carried came from other people\u2019s expectations, judgments, and comparisons.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>All Problems Are Interpersonal Problems<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Every frustration, every self-doubt, every hesitation comes down to <strong>relationships<\/strong>. If I were alone in the world, would I feel inferior? Would I compare myself to others, worry about failing, or fear judgment? No\u2014because problems only exist in relation to others. <strong>We struggle not because of who we are, but because of how we see ourselves through others\u2019 eyes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I realized that my insecurities weren\u2019t caused by my abilities or personality\u2014they were caused by my comparisons. I wasn\u2019t failing in any real way; I was just afraid of how I would be perceived. And this made me reflect: <em>If my happiness depends on the approval of others, will I ever truly be free?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pushing the Stone Up the Hill<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I had to ask myself: <em>What do I actually want?<\/em> The answer was simple\u2014<strong>being independent and living in harmony with others.<\/strong> The way to get there is through life\u2019s essential tasks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Friendship<\/strong> (building real connections)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Work<\/strong> (finding meaning in contribution)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Love<\/strong> (deep, honest relationships)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But achieving these things isn\u2019t effortless. <strong>They\u2019re like pushing a stone up a hill.<\/strong> Every day, I have to take small, deliberate steps forward. Some days, the stone rolls back, and I feel like I\u2019m losing progress. But if I stop pushing altogether\u2014if I avoid friendships out of fear, refuse to engage in meaningful work, or shy away from love because of past hurt\u2014the stone doesn\u2019t just stay in place. It rolls back down, and I find myself at the bottom, wondering why life feels empty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where the real shift happened. At first, it felt selfish. But I realized\u2014<strong>it was actually the opposite.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wasn\u2019t acting <em>to be liked<\/em> anymore. I wasn\u2019t seeking validation or molding myself to expectations. Instead, I was acting based on what I believed in. And paradoxically, this made my relationships stronger\u2014because they were based on authenticity, not obligation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>True freedom is <strong>being okay with not being liked by everyone<\/strong>. And that\u2019s fine. As <em>The Courage to Be Disliked<\/em> puts it, <strong>freedom is having the courage to be disliked<\/strong>. The moment I stopped living for approval, I felt lighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And for the first time, I wasn\u2019t just surviving\u2014I was living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Life Is a Dance, Not a Destination<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once I let go of the need for external validation, something shifted. Life no longer felt like a test I had to pass or a goal I had to reach. <strong>It felt like a dance.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A dance doesn\u2019t have a finish line\u2014you don\u2019t dance to \u201cwin.\u201d You dance because you enjoy moving, because you feel the rhythm, because you\u2019re present in the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And life is the same. It\u2019s not about reaching some ultimate goal where everything is perfect. It\u2019s about embracing the movement, flowing with the ups and downs, and finding joy in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is funny\u2014when you stop chasing meaning, <strong>life becomes meaningful on its own<\/strong>. Not because it has some grand, predetermined purpose, but because <em>you<\/em> get to decide what matters.
